Do
you know about rapid mixer granulator?
If not, then this article is for you as this will provide you the complete
guide on such mixer granulator in detail. Basically, this type of granulator is
used mostly in pharmaceutical manufacturing where choppers and impellers are
responsible for the uniform working as well as granule formation for wet
granulation.
Wet
granulation is one of the common steps in the manufacturing of solid dosage
pharmaceuticals and can be accomplished in the mixer granulator. The mechanical
impeller moves the power where the liquid binder is applied onto the moving
powder bed.
The
addition of liquid binder starts the formation of granules. However, the
granulator also consists of a chopper that helps in easy chopping. Such type of
granulator is mainly designed to achieve consistent and mixing granules at a
lower operating cost along with the higher amount of productivity.
The
granulation is performed into the following steps:
•
Mixing the dry material at high chopper and impeller speeds for a
few minutes
•
Addition of liquid binder by hammering it on the powder while both
the chopper and impeller are running at a low speed
•
Wet massing with agitators runs at a higher speed
Working
principle-
In
this mixer granulator, the formation of granules mainly occurs by the whirling,
rising and tumbling motion of the material. Dry mixing is mainly done by adding
all the ingredients in the RMG y the rotation of chopper and impeller at a
higher speed. Dry mixing takes at least 3-5 minutes in order to mix the
ingredients, whereas wet mixing takes 5-10 minutes to make the wet mass of
material and the granulation process takes 5-10 minutes to make 1.5mm sizes
granules.
